Managing Student Loans / Scholarships While on an Internship
If you are on a scholarship or have a student loan, make sure to reach out to your loan provider and your university's financial aid department prior to the start of an internship. Since you will be missing either a Spring or Fall term each year your school may require students to request a "leave of absence" or to apply for internship credits to keep scholarships and loans intact.
It is important that you understand your loan provisions. Most student loans provide a one-time, six-month, grace period if you are not enrolled in school. If the grace period is exhausted during your first internship, then you may have to make payments during your second internship. Contacting your provider will keep you informed of your options about repayment or deferral and forbearance options if necessary.
If you have any further questions regarding loans, please contact your university's financial aid department or your loan servicer.
