MECOP Launches Student Ambassador Program to Strengthen Peer Connections Across Campuses

MECOP successfully launched its inaugural Student Ambassador Program (SAP) during the 2025-2026 academic year, creating new opportunities for students to connect, collaborate, and build community across participating universities.

OSU MECOP students got down to business with board games and giveaways.

For many MECOP students, the program's unique structure, which includes two six-month internships, can make it challenging to maintain connections with peers on campus. The Student Ambassador Program was developed to address this gap by fostering meaningful, peer-to-peer engagement and ensuring students return to campus with a stronger sense of community.

The pilot year welcomed seven ambassadors representing all four MECOP partner universities:

As a pilot initiative, the program was introduced as a collaborative, evolving effort. Ambassadors worked closely with MECOP staff to shape the experience while stepping into leadership roles within their campus communities.

Throughout the year, ambassadors organized two primary events: a Fall Social and a Spring Social, each designed with a distinct purpose.

Fall events, held ahead of the Company Expo, focused on professional development. Hosted on campus, these gatherings provided students with guidance on networking, preparing for the Expo, and navigating the MECOP experience. Ambassadors also served as approachable peer resources, answering questions and supporting fellow students during a critical time in the program.

Spring events shifted toward connection and community. Held after Placement, these gatherings gave students the opportunity to build relationships, find roommates or carpool partners, and reconnect in a more relaxed setting. Events ranged from on-campus game nights to off-campus activities like mini golf, creating a welcoming and engaging environment for students across campuses.

Beyond event coordination, ambassadors contributed to broader MECOP initiatives. Students participated in outreach efforts such as the PSU Diversity Panel and OSU MECOP Presentations, and supported our Annual Mentor Training session by helping prepare company representatives and mentors to better guide and support the new and future cohorts of MECOP interns.

While the program will continue to evolve, its first year established a strong foundation for a long-requested student connections initiative. The Student Ambassador Program reflects MECOP's commitment to enhancing the student experience both professionally and personally.

Recruitment for the next cohort of student ambassadors will begin soon. Eligible students must have completed at least one MECOP internship and plan to be on-campus during the upcoming academic year.
