MECOP Scholarships And Related Materials
Student Loans
Contact your loan provider and university financial aid department prior to the start of your internship. Some schools require students to request a "leave of absence" in order to keep scholarships and loans intact.

University Scholarships
MECOP Gary Petersen Scholarship
Gary Petersen served as MECOP's Executive Director for nearly 40 years and is now retired. This scholarship has been established on his behalf to help students in rural communities pursue higher education.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants who have been accepted into MECOP or with pending MECOP applications or who intend to apply to MECOP.
- Must major in a discipline participating in MECOP.
- Current or former resident of Clatsop, Columbia, Coos, Crook, Curry, Douglas, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Hood River, Jefferson, Josephine, Klamath, Lake, Lincoln, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Tillamook, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco, Wheeler, Baker or Yamhill Counties.
- Must attend or be transferring to or attending a university participating in MECOP by fall term (also required for program acceptance).
- Will enroll as college junior or above for fall term/semester in undergraduate study.
- Full-time enrollment required.

Selection And Award
Two students will be selected to receive the scholarship each year. The award will be $2000 per recipient.

MECOP Rand Sherwood Scholarship
Rand Sherwood worked at PGE and was a hearty supporter of the MECOP program. He served on the MECOP board from October 2007 until his passing in May 2012.
This scholarship is intended to promote and continue the legacy of Mr. Sherwood by encouraging the relationship between industry and universities.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must qualify for FAFSA .
- Juniors and Seniors with demonstrated financial need who are accepted into MECOP (students with applications into MECOP may apply).
- Minimum GPA of 3.5.
- Attend one of the Universities Partnered with MECOP.
- Must major in an engineering discipline or Computer Science.
