Program Participation Requirements

The following is a general summary of what will be required of you once you get into the program. Instructions for this will also be included in your acceptance letter.

Note: Students accepted into MECOP are expected to complete the entire program. Those that fail to meet program obligations will be dropped from enrollment and will not be eligible for admission as a student alumni in our Alumni Association as well as other related networking / employment opportunities available to program graduates.

Freshman and Sophomore Year (Pre-Select Students Only)

  • Attend MECOP Fall Event in freshman and sophomore years
  • During the spring of your sophomore year at your university, complete and submit Preselect Status Review Form (on MECOP's website).
    • An email will be sent to the address you applied with as a reminder.
    • Keep your email address, phone # and street address updated with the MECOP Office.
    • Follow all other requirements listed in your MECOP acceptance letter.

Your first year as an intern

This normally occurs during your first year of upper division courses (junior year). Requirements during your first year as an intern include:

  • Attend and Complete the MECOP 407 Seminar for your discipline during fall term.
  • Attend Fall Event
  • Complete Junior Placement Profile
    • This is a standardized profile you will create on the website
  • Attend placement interviews
    • Note: Acceptance for your internship is not guaranteed. The amount of positions available in each member company varies each year and as such there won't always be enough positions for all students. Therefore these interviews are competitive in nature so take them seriously.
  • Begin first internship
  • Complete midterm appraisals
  • Create, present to company and submit internship PowerPoint presentation
  • Create and submit internship written report
  • Complete final appraisals

Your second year as an intern

This normally occurs during your second year of upper division courses (senior year). Requirements during your second year as an intern include:

  • Attend Fall Event
  • Present internship PowerPoint presentation in 407 Seminar (If selected as a presenter)
  • Complete Senior Placement Profile
    • This is a standardized profile you will create on the website
  • Attend Placement Interviews
    • Note: Acceptance for your internship is not guaranteed. The amount of positions available in each member company varies each year and as such there won't always be enough positions for all students. Therefore these interviews are competitive in nature so take them seriously.
  • Begin Second Internship
  • Complete Midterm Appraisals
  • Create, present to company and submit internship PowerPoint presentation
  • Create and submit Internship Written Report
  • Complete Final Appraisals

During / shortly after your last internship

  • Present internship PowerPoint presentation in 407 Seminar (If selected as a presenter)
  • (Highly Recommended) Attend Fall Event as a program graduate.
    • This is especially useful for students that have yet to receive a post-graduation employment offer.
  • (Highly Recommended) Complete Graduating Senior Employment Profile (profile created on website)
    • Many of our industry members hire interns straight out of the program by contacting students with posted employment profiles.
